What is Histourist ?
Histourist is a free on-line service which provides geo-localized multimedia historical contents of historical places. Service users are, mainly, urban tourists interested in historical subjects of the cities they visit. It was designed to act as the multimedia digital guide on the Smartphone when the user is visiting a historic site.
Things you can do in Histourist
During a touristic trip you can learn about the history of the places you are visiting. Histourist contains the history of towns, zones, buildings, monuments, parks, and other places in many cities of the world. Histourist's content is geo-localized by the integration of Google Maps. You can find the historic sites of your interest in the surrounding area, and also check the itineraries created by other users for a particular subject in a city or location.
Share the history of a place
Histourist allows you to edit and publish the history of your favorite historical places, bookmark your favorite places, and create your historical tours.You can also upload comments, pictures and videos to the content published by other members of our community.
The service is completely free ?
Yes. Histourist is completely free. There is no charge for using the portal, uploading and publishing contents or the other services of Histourist.
What can users NOT find on Histourist ?
Histourist is NOT a Directory
On Histourist you won´t find a list of the places to visit or restaurants near you or places to visit any other map-based guide. We´re not a city directory.
Histourist is NOT a Social Network
where you can find your friends that are nearby, plan a trip, mark the places you visited and upload pictures.
Histourist is an Encyclopedia
It is a very large on-line Encyclopedia of multimedia, geo-localized historical contents that provides its´ users powerful software to search and explore the content space for information relevant to them.
What does Histourist mean ?

What is my username ?
Histourist uses the email address you have registered as your username.
I forgot my password. Can I retrieve it or enter a new one ?
You must reset your password because it is not possible to recover it. To reset your password use the reset page here (or from the Login page click on the "Forgot your password?" link ), then enter the email address which you registered and we will send you an email to that address with the instructions to enter a new password.
If you receive the password reset email but you do not do anything your password will remain the same.
I forgot my password and I can not access the email account with which I signed. What can I do ?
Unfortunately we can not do anything. You must register again.
How do I delete or cancel my account ?
You must first make sure you're logged into your account, go to "My Account" and choose "Delete Account"
What type of contents is right for publishing on Histoutist ?
Histourist is an online community specialized in History, so the type of content that can be published here is only the history of a place, (which can be a monument, a building, a theater, a battlefield, a church,...), or what happened at a particular place or area. We welcome both history of local interest as well as "universal" history in the fields of art, culture, science and technology, architecture, political and militar history.
Content will not be accepted for political purposes, promotions and business services, or personal stories and/or family if not relate to the history of a city, region or country.
How does Histourist get its information ?
Our Encyclopedia is created using a hybrid approach: user Generated Content + Software that uses Machine Learning algorithms to extract content from on-line sources, and enrich the content (like linking relevant videos or pictures from other on-line sources), and classify it using our Controlled Vocabularies and Taxonomies.
I uploaded a content but it does not appear on the site.
Some of the content uploaded on the website is edited and classified by our editorial team before publication. Normally it takes one or two days before appearing in the published site.
I must be the owner of the publishing rights of texts, pictures and videos ? Can I take content from other sites on the web ?
You must be the owner of the publishing rights for content that you upload, or have rights to do so.
Can I copy content from Wikipedia ?
Yes. The contents of Wikipedia are available under a license that allows them to be copied on Histourist. You must indicate the source of the content and add a link to it
Can I link or embed any video from YouTube ?
Yes. You can link or embed any video from YouTube.
Can I link a photo from Flickr ?
Yes. You must add a text saying that this is a photo from Flickr and include a link to the Flickr page where it resides.
Who is behind Histourist ?
Histourist was created by Novamens, a software company based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We specialize in software products for content management.
How can I contact the team ?

Does Histourist accept advertising ?

What are Histourist´s future plans ?
Currently we are working on improvements on the user experience and the mobile phone version. In our next version users will be able to create their itineraries and share them with other users.
What technologies does Histourist use ?
Our site uses the kbee search engine and platform plus Open Source software: Linux, Hadoop, PostgreSQL, Apache. The back-end software is built using Java and Python.
